Аннотация:
Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in children are a major healthcare and social problem because of their high incidence and frequent use of antibiotics, which contributes to the growth of antimicrobial resistance. Children with recurrent ARIs are particularly prone to the development of chronic diseases. Bacterial lysate OM-85 is a well-studied immunomodulator (more than 50 randomized clinical trials in children have been published so far) with a well-known mechanism of action. The use of bacterial lysate OM-85 significantly reduces the frequency of recurrent ARIs, their duration, and the risk of allergic diseases, in particular bronchial asthma. Moreover, bacterial lysate OM-85 significantly decreases the need for antibacterial drugs; therefore, its use can be considered as a method reducing the risk of antimicrobial resistance. © 2019, Dynasty Publishing House.
